St Patty’s Day Facts - March 17th

The very first St. Patrick’s Day parade was not in Ireland, it was in Boston in 1737.

In Chicago, on St. Patrick's Day, the rivers are dyed green.

In Seattle, there is a ceremony where a green stripe is painted down the roads.

Green is associated with St. Patrick’s Day because it is the color of Spring.

There are 22 gallons of beer consumed per capita by Americans annually. Some establishments offer beer dyed green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s isn’t a big drinking holiday in Ireland. In fact, many of the local pubs are closed for
the day.
