QC Newsletter August 2016 - Tips for Hardwood Floor Care and Maintenance

Tips for Hardwood Floor Care and Maintenance

Like any floor covering, factory finished wood floors will show signs of wear over time, depending on the size and lifestyle of your family. By observing a few precautions and setting up a regular cleaning routine and maintenance program, you can expect years of beauty from your hardwood floor.

Sweep or vacuum regularly since built-up grit can damage the surface of the wood. The vacuum head must be a brush or felt type. Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not damage the finish. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar head. Do not use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax products, or other household cleaners that contain citrus oils, lemon oil, tung oil, silicon, or ammonia.

Keep pets’ nails trimmed and paws clean and free of dirt, gravel, grease, oil, and stains.

Place protective felt pads beneath furniture legs and feet to reduce scratches and dents. Replace pads as needed.  Also, use a dolly and protective sheet of plywood when moving heavy objects, furniture or appliances.

Remove shoes with spiked or damaged heels before walking on floor.

Exposure to the sun and its UV rays accelerates the oxidation and aging of wood. This can cause the wood stain and/or wood to fade and/or to change color. We recommend that you rearrange rugs and furniture periodically so the floor ages evenly.

Use area rugs in high-traffic areas and pivot points, for example, stair landings, room entries, etc, especially if you have a large family or indoor pets.

Lastly, every 18-24 months your hardwood floors should be professionally cleaned to restore it’s original beautiful finish.  This is done by our thorough process that involves a deep cleaning and optional top coat finish.  This process protects the original stain and if done periodically will keep you from refinishing or replacing your floors in the future.

QC Newsletter July 2016 - Pet Treatment

Pet Accidents Happen, Stop Them From Getting Worse

You know how it goes: The minute you turn your back, your pet decides that your clean carpet is  the perfect place to relieve himself.
You clean and clean, but you can’t get rid of that smell. What can you do?

Take Care of It Quickly

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first deposited onto a floor or fabric, it is in an almost “neutral” state, which means it is easier to remove when it is fresh.
Once it dries, it turns “alkaline” and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

Our Expert Approach

We will inspect your carpeted areas with ultraviolet lights and moisture probes. Upon detection, enzyme treatment is applied directly to the infected area. The enzyme breaks down and digests the proteins, then is extracted and the carpet is cleaned with our 10-step process.

QC Newsletter June 2016 - Carpet and Furniture Lasts Longer with Fabric & Fiber Protection!

Carpet and Furniture Lasts Longer with Fabric & Fiber Protection!

This application assures you of the best protection possible against resoiling and stains. Maxim Fiber Protection has two protective properties. The first is an acid dye blocker that is basically a clear dye that fills the extra dye sites in a fiber. This helps to keep “foreign” dyes (such as red dye in a beverage) from penetrating the carpet fiber. The second property is called a “fluorochemical”. It is commonly known as 3M Scotchgard® or DuPont Teflon®. This treatment helps keep spillage from actually getting to the acid dye blocker, but its biggest job is to resist dry soil.

By resisting dry soil, less soil bonds to the carpet; therefore, more soil is being picked up by your vacuum. Making sure that you have a sufficient amount of protector on your carpet will help keep the soil from bonding to the carpet. Once it bonds to the carpet, it acts like sandpaper on your traffic area. Once the traffic area yarns are broken down, there is no way to bring them back to their original state.

Bridgepoint’s Maxim Fine Fabric Protector can be applied to just about any type of furniture fabric including delicate fabrics such as silk. We can protect new or just cleaned furniture. Bridgepoint’s Maxim Fine Fabric Protector has a special carrying agent that will not water mark delicate fabrics. Once the product dries, it will leave a layer of protection that will help the homeowner maintain furniture with ease.

Six Reasons You Should Always Get Carpet Protector:
Reduces permanent stains. A great looking carpet can be ruined by an ugly spot. Unprotected carpet doesn’t repel spillage as well as protected carpet. Protector will allow you to remove spots and spills more effectively, therefore helping you to avoid permanent staining.

Helps save your traffic areas from becoming destroyed. Traffic area soil is very abrasive and cuts carpet yarns like a knife. This damaging soil can easily bond to an unprotected carpet. By applying protector, you will increase the life of your carpet dramatically. When you vacuum your protected carpet the soils will release from the carpet pile much more effectively.

Make spots easier to remove. The easier a spot is to remove, the less cleaner you will have to use. The less agitation you will have to use, and the less time it will take. Many spots can be removed easily with just water.

Makes your next professional cleaning more effective. Having protector applied to your carpet will enhance your next cleaning. More soil will be removed the next time your carpeting is professionally cleaned.

Helps avoid costly service calls. Although you want to call us to handle any spot you cannot remove immediately, carpet protector helps you remove more spots than you could without protector. You may be able to save a minimum charge by removing the spot yourself.

Your carpet will look better and last longer when it is protected

QC Newsletter June 2016 - How Carpet Cleaning Reduces Asthma and Allergies

How Carpet Cleaning Reduces Asthma and Allergies

The U.S. EPA reports that Americans spend nearly 90 percent of their time indoors which means that indoor air quality is of the utmost importance.

Many urban legends state that carpet reduces indoor air quality, but the facts support quite the opposite in that carpet is better for indoor air quality because it acts as a filter by trapping allergens and keeping them out of the breathing zone. In fact, there is no scientific study linking the rise of allergies and asthma to the use of carpet.

If you have carpet in your home, keeping it clean is the best way to eliminate the negative effects of allergens.

Vacuuming is the simplest and most effective way to remove dirt and allergens from carpet. In fact, 90 to 95% of all dry soil by weight can be removed from carpet by following a routine vacuuming schedule. CRI Seal of Approval tests vacuums for effective soil removal and dust containment, which means SOA-approved vacuums are among the best at raising indoor air quality.

Another imperative in improving indoor air quality is a regular deep cleaning.

A deep cleaning every 12-18 months by a Seal of Approval service provider will renew the look of carpet by removing the deepest dirt. SOA Service Providers utilize certified equipment that effectively removes soil to get carpet looking like new.

If you’re committed to improving indoor air quality in your home, choosing carpet and choosing to clean it is the best way to accomplish this.
