QC News Nov/Dec 2008 - Is Your Home Ready for Winter?

Is Your Home Ready for Winter?

Here are some helpful tips to help you enjoy a safe,
inexpensive and warm winter season!

1. Make sure your furnace is in good working order. Clean your filters and check that the pilot light and fuel source are functioning properly.

2. Check the caulking around your windows. Heat loss due to cracks can cause sever heat loss, while raising your utility bills dramatically.

3. Clear your gutters of leaves & branches. Trapped water will freeze in the cold, and with enough build-up, could damage your gutters, roof and more.

4. Make sure your chimney is free of debris. Build-up can prevent proper ventilation of smoke, as well as pose a fire danger for your home.

5. Prevent your pipes from freezing and rupturing by maintaining at least a 65F degree temperature in your home, even when you’re not there.

6. Have your heating ducts cleaned. It’s recommended that the ducts be vacuumed every 5 years.
