Grab your baskets and your bunny ears because Easter is almost here! It’s right around the corner.... March 31st to be exact!

Alpenrose Dairy Farm (March 30) RAIN OR SHINE 10:30 AM for kids ages 3-5 hunt for chocolate eggs, toys and other fun treats. The hunt for kids ages 6-8 will begin at 12:00 PM. The Grand Prize for kids will be 14 six-foot Easter bunnies. Arrive early parking is limited this is a big event.

Oregon Zoo Rabbit Romp (March 30) FREE w/Regular Zoo admission. Candy egg hunts occur every 20 minutes on the zoo’s concert lawn, for children 10 and younger. Hunts are divided into age groups to level the playing field for all children. Parents are not allowed in the hunt areas, except for in the toddler hunt (2 and under) and the family hunt area. Don’t forget to bring a basket! Games, Crafts, and petting zoo.

 Tualatin Easter Egg Hunt (March 30) The Easter Bunny is partnering for the 37th year in a row with the Tualatin Lions Club and the Lion’s Boy Scout Troop, #530, to give the boys and girls of Tualatin the best Easter Egg Hunt they could have! The Lions and Easter Bunny will be ready for their hunt at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Tualatin Community Park, 8515 SW Tualatin Rd., Tualatin.

Wilsonville Egg Hunt (March 30) Wilsonville Parks & Recreation & Wilsonville Albertsons will be hosting this year’s annual Easter Egg Hunt in Memorial Park. Numerous prizes & gift baskets will be given away!  Bring your basket and hunt with us for the perfect egg.  Ages 1 to 11, March 30th 10:00 am at the Memorial Park.

New carpet can improve the appearance of any room, but how can carpet that is walked on every day continue looking new? To keep your carpet clean, it's necessary to vacuum regularly with a strong, well-functioning and properly-filtered vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately, due to traffic, children, pets and normal wear, carpet fibers inevitably become soiled, and a dull appearance results. And no matter how much you vacuum, eventually you will need to call a professional carpet cleaner.

Regular professional cleaning using a Cleantrust technician is as important to your carpet as having a trained mechanic perform routine tune-ups on your car. While your carpet may appear clean on the surface, periodic cleaning by a certified technician can remove what you can't see and help your carpet retain its fresh, beautiful appearance.

What is the proper way to deal with furniture indentations in carpet?

Indentations from furniture re-arrangement are a normal phenomenon in carpet.  Sometimes, the situation is self-correcting when the furniture is moved and the carpet backings and pile are allowed to re-acclimate.  In other cases, vacuuming coupled with light brushing can bring up the indented areas. In extreme cases, the indentation can be covered with a damp towel and steamed with an iron for a few seconds, followed by brushing while warm to "resurrect" the pile in that area.  Nylon carpet pile (about 70% of residential carpet) responds particularly well to this procedure.

There are, however, limitations by the type of pile fiber. If the pile is made of non-resilient olefin, as in olefin Berber or level-loop olefin commercial carpet, the indentation may be permanent. That's a characteristic of the fiber. This is why non-resilient olefin often is combined with resilient nylon in several popular carpet styles.

Our technicians attended this conference at the end of last month. One of the things they learned about was the production of wool in the U.S.  They learned that wool is grown in all 50 states and there are 81,000 sheep farms and ranches.  American wool is versatile and is known for it’s “loftiness”  Also, it’s  used to make insulation, handmade rugs, tennis balls, bedding products and clean up pads for oil spills.

I bet you thought wool was for area rugs and coats only!

In the United Kingdom, Prince Charles started  “The Campaign for Wool” in 2010 to put wool back on the market.  He had noticed there was a decline in wool productivity.  This campaign is designed to improve the consumers understanding, appreciation and the sustainability benefits of wool.  The Prince is also a sheep farmer (yeah, that surprised all of us too!) and considers himself an environmentalist.  He brought together experts from  the industry from fashion/interior designers to carpet manufactures and architects.  Launching a plan to them to get the industry to work together and make wool fashionable once again.  The campaign has been very successful because it is based on a simply philosophy of supporting and encouraging  all levels of the wool industry.

The message is simple “Choose Wool”            

When you think about it, wool is a green product and is sustainable because it uses the sheep's wool which grows back naturally after it’s been sheared.  A good quality wool carpet can last hundreds of years.  You can incorporate wool into your house many ways.  Wool runners, area rugs, blankets, mattresses, pholstered chairs, clothes and much more!

QC Newsletter January 2013 - Carpet Tips for the New Year

Happy New Year from the staff of Quick and Clean Services.
Here are some New Years carpet tips.

Tip #1 Entry Mats - Entry ways are often the most heavily soiled areas of
carpet in the home.  The simplest yet most effective way in keeping these high
traffic areas from becoming heavily soiled is to use entry mats.

Tip #2 Take Off Your Shoes - You can save wear and tear on carpet by asking
everyone to take off his or her shoes before entering your home.

Tip #3 Change Your Air Filters - Changing air filters in your heating and air
conditioning systems as recommended by the manufacturer's directions.  The more
dust and particles removed by the filter, the less that fall on the carpet.

Tip #4 Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum - Increase vacuum frequency.  Since about
75% of carpet soil is dry particulate, vacuuming more often prevents soil from
embedding deep into carpets.  Vacuum heavy traffic areas slowly and repeatedly.

Tip #5 Remove Spots Immediately - Spots that are not immediately removed
can turn into permanent stains very easily.  Always use a spot cleaner that is
recommended by the carpet manufacturer or your trained, certified professional
cleaner!  Many “over the counter” spotters leave too much soap that leaves a sticky
residue behind that will make your spots return!

Tip #6 Carpet Protectant - Next time you have your carpets cleaned asked us
about carpet protectant.  The soil resistor that is built into stain resistant nylon
carpet is removed with regular foot traffic and harsh cleaners.  To keep your
carpet cleaner longer, have protector reapplied each time you have your carpet
professional cleaned.
